A Wedding That Sparkles
When
you attend a wedding celebration that is truly exceptional, it makes sense to
pay attention - especially if you blog for a company like Say Anything Design - a provider of
unique, memorable and creative wedding ideas.
We attended such a wedding recently. From the unique guest book upon arrival to the river of guests with wedding sparklers that ushered them to their romantic getaway, the wedding and
reception were both joyful celebrations full of meaningful memories.
Here is a first-hand account of our three favorite creative and memorable moments:
Before the Wedding
As we approached the seating area for this outdoor wedding,
we were greeted by a unique guest book or should I say, guestbook tree. Instead of signing a traditional guest book (like you might
see at a funeral), a high quality rendering of a tree without leaves was
surrounded by an array of colored ink pads. A simple but elegant instruction
card directed us to use an inkpad to create colorful ‘leaves’ on the thumb print tree with our thumbs and then to sign our thumbprint as a permanent
record of our attendance.
This unique guest book alternative created quite a buzz. We overheard guests chatting about the colors and the creativity. The bride and groom had it matted and framed to display as ‘wedding art’ in their new home. What a great way to involve guests. It felt like we were creating a special gift for the happy couple.
Before the Reception
The entire wedding party disappeared with the photographer
immediately after the ceremony and we followed the crowd to begin that (often
much too long) break where wedding guests munch on mixed nuts and make small
talk until the bride and groom return with the wedding party to get the party
started. But then something great happened - something we had never experienced
before. The lights dimmed and a larger-than-life image of the bride and groom appeared on the huge video screen behind the head table. The casually dressed couple extended a pre-recorded video welcome, an explanation of what they were up to at the moment, and a preview of how the evening would unfold.

After their opening comments, an entertaining and well produced video clip chronicled the high (and low) points of their entire relationship – from their first date on through a number of romantic milestones and comical episodes in their growing love story. The grand finale was a complete video reenactment of the groom’s very romantic and highly creative proposal to the bride, complete with commentary from the happy couple as to what they were thinking and feeling as events unfolded.
As the video played, I was impressed with the sincerity of their love for each other. Much time, thought, and effort went into making their engagement day special and memorable for both of them. This theme of fun and creativity continued up to the day of their wedding, which was filled to the brim with much love and laughter - for them and for us.
After the Reception
The wedding was incredible and the reception was full of fun
and memorable moments. Late in the evening, while the bride and groom changed
their clothes, hundreds of guests were handed wedding sparklers (instead of
rice) and asked to form two long lines - a human river of light from the
reception hall to the double doors leading outside.
As the happy couple paraded their way down the wedding sparkler-illumined pathway through the dark night air, they ran to a waiting helicopter that had just landed in the nearby field (a helicopter the bride knew nothing about until that very moment). As they flew off into the night sky, I realized that in every way possible, the “how to do a wedding” bar was raised to new heights that day.
